Hook
Close your eyes. Imagine your hiking up a very steep and tall Hill. You have a very heavy backpack on as you are making your way up the hill, step by step. Finally You get to the top, you turn around to look at what you just conquered as you are turning your head you see a golden sun lighting up the valley you were just in. You see the rushing stream you slept by last night you see the deer that woke you up during the night. You notice the beautiful greens in the trees, the yellow, purples, reds, pinks, blues in the flowers. This is where is was on July, 17 2017. This is one of my favorite memories from backpacking with DeerHill Expeditions. Hello I am Phillip Kolter and welcome to my 2019 TPoL.
Metaphor
This whole year has been a crazy long backpacking trip. In the beginning your happy, you have a no problems and you feel like you are ready for any problem that arises. During, it’s just wild. I could rain it could be unbearably hot. Either way you have ups where you think you could do anything and downs where you just wish you were at your house in your bed with food and your favorite movie. At the end your ready for it to be over and your excited for the next trip. Just like a backpacking trip i am both ready for this school year to be over and excited for the next year.
Essential Question
Who have you become from this year through your experiences at AHS?
This year at Animas I think i have become more focused on my school work not just when i am on my medication but learning from my medicine to be more school orientated and concerned about my grades and getting my work done.

Metaphor Extensions
1. This year i have improved in being a student. When i first started doing backpacking trips, I had a negative attitude about and though that i wasn’t gonna enjoy myself. But as i went on more trips and did more and more i learned to enjoy it. Esspecally in spanish I have become more involved in my education. I have really taken to learning spanish this year. When i switched to spanish from french at the beginning on the year i was uninterested in learning a language but in the second semester i started pushing myself to learn more spanish and as i did, i started to enjoy the class more. Eventually i started winning almost every kahoot and i saw my grade in that class rise from the F it was last semester to a B. This was good growth for me because it got be engaged in a class like i have never been before.
2. This year i have improved as a mathematician. Most of the times i have been backpacking there has always been the one point where i just want to give up, I just feel so defeated that i want to be back at home in bed doing nothing. But all you can do in that situation is push through. And usually right after you push yourself through that mood and keep moving, that’s the biggest high because when you can make it through that low point you feel like you can do anything. At the beginning of the year i really didn’t care about math. By second semester i was trying to keep my grade up so i wouldn’t fail the second semester. At the beginning of second semester i didn’t have good organization in math. By the end of second semester i had a good organization system and it showed to be helpful. The last project we did in math was the pendulum project. Throughout this project i kept track of all of the papers torrey gave us and i was able to put together a good cover letter for my math portfolio and got a 86/100. This i believe was good growth for me because i proved to myself that i can be organized and it gave me a passing grade in math class.
